✅ Calculator FPL ACA expansion 2026

Medicaid Eligibility Quick-Check

A federal-baseline test for ACA Medicaid expansion. In expansion states (40 plus DC), adults under 65 generally qualify if household income is at or below 138% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL). This calculator shows where you stand against that line. Children, pregnancy, disability, long-term care, and non-expansion states use different rules — this is the broadest single gateway.

2026 Federal Poverty Level (48 contiguous states + DC)

Alaska and Hawaii use higher FPL tables.

What this calculator does NOT cover

  • Children (CHIP). Most states cover children up to 200%–300% of FPL.
  • Pregnancy. Income limits typically extend to 138%–200% of FPL even in non-expansion states.
  • Disability or aged 65+. ABD (Aged, Blind, Disabled) Medicaid uses much stricter income AND asset limits — typically around the SSI federal benefit rate ($967/month individual in 2026) plus modest disregards. Asset limit is usually $2,000 individual / $3,000 couple.
  • Long-Term Care Medicaid (LTC). Different income/asset tests, the spousal-impoverishment rules, and the Minimum Monthly Maintenance Needs Allowance (MMMNA) for the community spouse.
  • Medically Needy / Spend-Down. Some states allow you to "spend down" income on medical expenses to qualify even when income exceeds the limit.
  • Dual-eligible. People on Medicare who also qualify for Medicaid get help with Medicare premiums, deductibles, and copays via the Medicare Savings Programs (QMB, SLMB, QI, QDWI).
